Born amid the Spanish flu pandemic in 1919, today the 101-year-old in Italy also beat COVID-19

He was born in the midst of a Spanish flu pandemic, in 1919, and today, at 101 years of age managed to survive Covid-19, for which he had been hospitalized.

The man, from Rimini, had ended up at the Infermi hospital in his city for just over a week precisely because he had contracted the virus. He did it and returned home,  as TGCOM24 reports.

To tell his story with a happy ending was the deputy mayor, Gloria Lisi, explaining that the 101-year-old, "hospitalized in Rimini, in a few days has become 'history' also for doctors, nurses, all healthcare workers, hope for the future of all of us in the body of a person over one hundred years old, when the sad chronicles of these weeks tell mechanically every day of a virus that is raging especially on the elderly. The family brought him home. To teach us that the future is not written even at 101".

The deputy mayor then comments on the story: "It is in the darkest times that certain stories take on broader meanings than simply telling the facts and become symbols. Of emotion or spur, but still narratives in which to recognize each other, which they settle in the collective memory".
