Education is one of those areas that has so many problems in Albania. Including the infrastructure, hygiene, heating, hours above the allowable rate, the salaries of the teachers, etc. The head of the Independent Union of Education in Albania, Alma Lama, told Euronews Albania that teachers face financial problems.
“The salary is not satisfactory at all. Two pay hikes have been promised but have not happened. They have also been denied a year-end reward. The teacher in Tirana is employed twice, which means that the salary he receives by the school meets just the basic needs of leaving...,” said Alma Lama.
Not having enough of the burden these teachers have, they also have to cope with the difficulties of the “Doing homework” initiative.
"Happens that the teacher finishes the work in the class at 11: 20h with the first classes and the other two hours has to let the kids free. And in one and a half the teacher must start the initiative 'we do the homework in the classroom', although is paid only one hour,” emphasized Ms. Lama.
In the academic year 2018-2019 - according to the Institute of State Statistics - in school desks sat over 641 thousand Albanian students. The president of the Independent Trade Union of Education in our country says that the conditions in which these students are learning today are not what they should be.
“Teaching requires investment, requires laboratories, tools, in order for teaching to be the quality and standard required by the Pisa Test. We went low in the Pisa Test. Our students had a 2 year lower grade than the Europeans," she said.
