Erdogan donates his salary for 7 months in solidarity in the fight against coronavirus

 
 Turkey's president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has launched the National Solidarity Campaign to help fight the new coronavirus (COVID-19), donating seven months of his salary to the initiative.

"I am starting the campaign in person by donating my seven-month salary," President Erdoğan said in his address to the nation. Erdogan stressed that cabinet members in government and lawmakers also donated 5.2 million Turkish liras ($ 791,000) to the campaign.

He added that Turkey enjoys better medical equipment compared to other countries fighting coronavirus. "Turkey is rapidly opening new hospitals while also strengthening the existing ones. We are determined to use all means to curb the spread of coronavirus, ”the Turkish president said. In its latest report, the Turkish Ministry of Health announced that 37 new cases of coronavirus deaths have been registered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll in the country to 168.

According to the Turkish ministry, the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus has increased to 10,827, with 1,610 new cases registered in the last 24 hours.
