Glauk Konjufca and Gent Cakaj |
Sharing the expenditures and duties in lobbying for the recognition of Kosovo, as well as transferring Albania's experience to Kosovo on the EU integration process, were the two agreements promised by Albanian Foreign Minister Gent Cakaj during his two-day visit. weeks ago in Kosovo. The latter, Minister of European Integration in Kosovo, Blerim Reka, although considered necessary, says that still knows nothing institutionally of Minister Cakaj's idea.
“Of course it needs it, so the ministries should be discussed and met. Therefore, it is necessary to make a work plan and to highlight the main needs, not only the Ministry of Integration, but the society of Kosovo. What institutional capacity can we gain from Albania, what harmful experience must not be repeated by Albania in order for us, with their experience, to move forward. But, let me say this again, this is an unofficial Foreign Minister initiative that we are not aware of,” he says.
In this regard, European integration expert Besnik Vasolli says that the initiative was mentioned earlier, but that there was nothing concrete. But he considers the latest initiative more serious and says it will serve Kosovo. “In the case of Albania, it is very necessary to identify those that have worked for us as well. In this way, we make sure that they are incorporated into local laws as well. In this way our laws become even closer to the EU,” he says.
“The Republic of Kosovo and Albania have limited economic capacities. Diplomacy is a very expensive activity. Based on this fact I think they can support each other. As in terms of facilities, because we are not talking about an embassy, but a facility that provides services from two different states. On that basis I think it's a very good idea," he says. Diplomatically, Kosovo and Albania have previously signed agreements and memorandums of cooperation, but there have been delays in their implementation.
