Serbian suspected of raping an 8-month pregnant woman during Kosovo War, held in custody in Budapest

A Hungarian court has imposed 40-day detention on a Serbian citizen on suspicion of involvement in war crimes in Kosovo.

The court in Budapest said that the Kosovo authorities had requested his extradition on suspicion that in June 1999, in the village of Videja in the municipality of Klina, Central Kosovo, she beat and raped a woman who was in her 8th month of pregnancy, Voice of America in Albanian writes.

The suspect will remain in custody until the Hungarian authorities receive all documents from Kosovo to decide on extradition.

Authorities in Kosovo say there are over 20,000 victims of war rape in Kosovo, and so far no conviction has been recorded for this war crime.

The Kosovo Special Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment on March 6 against a former Serb police officer for "war crimes against civilians and rape during the Kosovo war".
