The Albanian Embassy in Canada has shared information aiming Albanian students in Canada about the situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic, after being updated by the Canadian authorities.

Thus, this pandemic has also affected migration services, so the Canadian authorities have pursued policies in support of foreign migrants and students.

According to the Canadian Department of State for Global Affairs, the foreign students who have remained in Canada can apply to renew their study permit, while being given the right to work even if their application is in the process of being approved, this is what the state website Albanian Telegraphic Agency writes.

Students who have a study permit issued before March 18, 2020, will be able to travel to Canada, while those who have obtained study permits after this date will not be allowed to travel until another decision by the government.

Canada, after the situation created by the coronavirus, approved the economic aid package that includes financial support of 2000 dollars.

Beneficiaries of this financial assistance will also be the foreign students who meet the criteria set by the Employment Insurance program or the new Canadian Emergency Support program, but also beneficiaries are those students who have the minimum number of working hours and that meet the minimum monthly income, according to the State Department for Global Affairs.

As for students who are pursuing studies with one of the scholarship programs, they are given the opportunity to return to their home countries and continue their studies through online platforms, but this only applies when the university offers this opportunity.

Meanwhile, applications for scholarship benefits have been postponed. The new deadlines will start this month.

Further, the Albanian Embassy in Canada calls on students to regularly consult with public health centers to obtain information on guidelines for the support that apply to their community.
