Varfaj will not even stay in the position of Vice Mayor, as Albanian media say. He took office on December 1, 2019, following the resignation of Valbona Sako.
According to the same sources, Emirjana Sako is expected to be in charge of the Durrës municipality, who previously held the position of Director of Services and has been appointed Deputy for about 2 months.

The Deputy Mayor of Durrës appointed by decision of the Municipal Council of Durrës to exercise the duties and functions of the Mayor of Durrës, found in the face of a completely unfavorable situation, even with increased risk to my health, I submit and give up my irrevocable resignation from the task and the assigned functions.
I would like to thank and appreciate with gratitude the Municipal Council of Durrës for the trust and support given by each of its members and associates of the administration of the Municipality of Durrës, who in this period of great difficulties for Durrës have given and done their best in solving many problems and demands of the citizens of Durrës.
