Kosovo Police announced on Wednesday that they have arrested a police officer for disregarding the orders of the Government of Kosovo, regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

The police officer arrested late Tuesday, was not on duty.

The notice states that the police officer, with the decision of the prosecutor, was assigned a detention measure for 48 hours.

The police officer was also suspended from duty.

"Kosovo police should be a guarantor of law enforcement and such violations at this time are a bad model for the citizens of Kosovo, to whom we are making constant calls to follow the instructions of Kosovo institutions," said through a Facebook post the acting Minister of Internal Affairs and Public Administration in the Government of Kosovo in office, Xhelal Sveçla.

The Kosovo government has already declared a state of emergency for public health, shortly after the first cases of coronavirus appeared on March 13.

Among the measures taken, such as the closure of schools and restaurants, is also the ban on the movement of citizens from 17:00 to 06:00.

In Kosovo, the total number of people infected with coronavirus is 184, five patients have died and 30 have recovered.

Thirty-three people have been infected by the Serb community in Kosovo, and one has died.

The Serb community reports its cases in Serbia.
