A protest took place in the form of a ‘flash mob’ in Padua in defense of the demolition of the National Theater of Albania two weeks ago today by the Municipality of Tirana, which aims to build a new and a modern theater.

The protest, organized through social media, took place in front of the Moroni Palace in Padavo and was peaceful. Italian and Albanian civic organizers have expressed their sensitivity to the Albanian cultural heritage.

"Two weeks ago at 4:30 am in the morning in Tirana, a place near Padua, near Italy, a cultural symbol was destroyed that was supposed to unite these places. We need culture, bridges that connect the two sides because our past is present and our future. Cultural heritage must be passed on to new generations. That is why we condemn the demolition of the National Theater built by the Italians in the previous century and we also condemn the violence used by the police against intellectuals, against the civilian population", said Elda Omari, archaeologist and art historian.

"A place without a past and without memory is a place without identity," says the TV7 chronicle.

"In cooperation with Albanian friends, considering the fact that Puglia is very close to Albania, we are here to show our solidarity," said the President of the Puglia Association in Padua, Donato Coluccia.
