Max Velo was a painter, architect, researcher, and writer. He served a prison sentence during the communist regime with motive 'agitation and propaganda' and part of his creativity is dedicated to the dimension of freedom in the dictatorship. In recent years he has been widely involved in public space management debates through journalistic articles and other activities.
Max Velo was born in Paris, on August 31, 1935. After his birth, the Velo family returned to Albania, to the city of Korça, where Max spent his childhood.
The place of origin of the parents was the village of Dardha in the city of Korça. After graduating from high school, he continued his studies at the Polytechnic Institute, in the branch of Civil Engineering. He then specialized in architecture and in 1960 took part in the first design that took place in Tirana. He further worked at the Tirana design bureau. Then, the years '78 -'79 coincide with the most difficult period of his life, as during this time, he is arrested and sentenced to ten years in prison.
Max Velo is the author of a number of publications such as: "Headache", "Prison Coat", "Prison Thesis", "Parallel to Architecture", "Anti-Semitic Time", "The Concreting of Democracy", "Investigation", "Spaçi" (the village where he spent the prison sentence) , "My Life in Figures", "Karavasta Club", "The Translator", "Parallel Life", etc. As an artist, he creates in several genres of art: painting, prose, poetry, journalism as he is engaged in issues of Albanian current affairs. .
