The incumbent Prime Minister sent a request on Friday to get the opinion of the Venice Commission "on the powers of the President of Kosovo in the dissolution of parliament and on the proposal of the mandate holder for Prime Minister of the country, after the successful motion of no confidence".
A statement from his office said: "The commission has decided to respect the decision of the Constitutional Court, which has already taken action."
The incumbent government said it welcomed "the Commission's suggestion to respect and await the review of the request and the decision of the Constitutional Court." After the treatment, if there is a need for additional clarifications and public assistance from the Commission, we will take the necessary steps.", it is said in a notification of the Government of Kosovo.
On Friday, the Constitutional Court of Kosovo imposed an interim measure suspending the implementation of President Hashim Thaci's decree on a new prime minister-designate for the formation of the Kosovo government.
On Thursday President Thaçi announced the decree proposing to the Kosovo Parliament, Avdullah Hoti from the Democratic League for the formation of the new government of Kosovo.
The Court's decision followed a request by the Vetëvendosje movement to assess the constitutionality of President Thaçi's decree, which also called on the Court to impose an interim measure.
The court set the deadline until May 29 to decide on the constitutionality of the president's decree. Observers believe the decision could be made earlier, given the situation in Kosovo.
Kosovo has been governed by the incumbent government since March 25, when the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Albin Kurti's government was voted on, demanding that the country goes to the polls after the pandemic.
