What exactly happened?
The serious incident, in the dimensions of horror, happened last night behind the former "mapo" in Kombinat, near the "Myslim Keta" gymnasium. Preliminary data suggest that the mother and daughter may have sacrificed themselves by drinking poisonous substances. All three, the mother and two daughters, are believed to have been members of the Jehovah's Witnesses religious sect, and they seem to have undertaken the heavy act of self-sacrifice as they believed in the resurrection and a better life.
The alarm for the event was given by Zhaneta Josif's brother, who could not communicate with them. Initially, firefighters entered the apartment through the window, as the door of the apartment was locked from the inside. They have revealed the serious scene. One of the girls, who is believed to have died a few days ago, but also the mother who was found dead, had signs of malnutrition.
The other girl, Blerta, was found with signs of life. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition. While inside the apartment, the police found some letters with religious notes.
While representatives of Jehovah's Witnesses denied today that the two women who died in an apartment in Tirana belonged to their sect, the Albanian authorities also provided details about the case.
According to the forensic service, the 30-year-old Anisa Josifi, a university student, had died at least 15 months before she was found dead in her home, and her mother and sister kept her dead, wrapping her with various layers in bed, waiting for her "resurrection."
Zhaneta Josifi and Anisa Josifi are the victims of the event, while the survivor is Blerta Josifi, who actually is in the hospital, after she was sent there urgently. Albanian media have written that the women have not eaten for 40 days, not being fed. The General Director of the Police in Tirana said that in the apartment of the Josifi family, who lived on rent, found materials with religious content.
From the beginning, the Albanian online media and the print newspaper talked about the fact that Jehovah's Witnesses are behind the self-sacrifice, but the representatives of Jehovah's Witnesses in Tirana and Athens has denied everything.
"We want to inform you officially that neither of the two women who committed suicide belongs to our religious community, nor did they have any connection with us. The suicide is not justified by our religion, Jehovah's Witnesses. The teachings of the Bible are based on the greatest respect for human life, and nowhere is suicide seen or offered as a blessing from God.
"Our deepest conviction is that God would never ask anyone to end his life because life is sacred to God," said a statement from the Greek Community of Jehovah's Witnesses.
The women's neighbors spoke to local media about their strange behavior and isolation in the last two years and the visits of some well-dressed ladies who were official. While Police are investigating the issue..
