"Everyone comes, campaigns and if he or she wins the elections he disappears for 4 years and will not care about the concerns of the people who elected him or her. God forbid even give the enemy a Parliament like this", are some of the spiciest quotes of the citizens in the survey conducted by the Institute of Political Studies on the quality of the Albanian Parliament, Top Channel reports.

The monitoring covers the period 2017-2020 where Albanians do not hide their disappointment for the level of MPs as over 86.5 percent of Albanians feel unrepresented by the current Parliament.

“There is an interesting fact; when we asked the mayors why you brought these problematic individuals, the answer was they reflect the level of society. In fact, citizens say they do not reflect the level of society. There is a great deal of frustration among those who are called transition politicians and transition models. If we take certain categories, there is a clear consensus against the inflows from business to politics, against 'strong' individuals in politics and accidental entry into politics", says Afrim Krasniqi at the Institute of Political Studies.

Afrim Krasniqi lists two main reasons for the disappointment of Albanians from the political class.

"First, the current parliament has lost its constitutional role and no one believes that the current parliament controls the government and fulfills the tasks for which it was voted by the citizens. And secondly, the withdrawal of the opposition has upset the political balance, brought random flows to the parliament and lost the concept of debate in plenary sessions. And if we get their answers they require a complete reform of the electoral system, the transition to open or majority lists; require MPs who disobey the party chairman, independent individuals with integrity, and require individuals who maintain direct contact with citizens; three qualities that do not meet the current deputies, not only because of the system but also the specific circumstances ", explains Krasniqi.

Eight months after the general election, political parties have begun selecting potential candidates to put on the lists. But what is the model of politicians that Albanians are looking for.

"When we ask citizens how do they want the MP in their ideals, it is interesting that there are two qualities: one, they want honest and uncorrupted; two, they want a normal person in human communication and relationships with people, ethics and citizenship. And when he receives these two demands, it means that they are not met by the current political elite, by the current parliament, by the deputies. the citizens just want them not to be corrupt, to be normal people, honest people in their relations.”.

If the current legislature is considered the weakest, that of 92-96 is evaluated by Albanians as the best, where there were idealists, while, unlike today where the model of the "dumb" deputy is commonly encountered, placed on lists by the mayor.
