Albania's EU integration blocked by France, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Spain

The Council of the European Union will convene on November 10th to decide on the first intergovernmental conference on North Macedonia and Albania.

Although the European Commission in the progress report for the two countries has recommended the start of negotiations for membership in the union, the last word will be said by the EU member states.

Euronews Albania journalist in Brussels, Ernest Bunguri has learned that skeptical countries about EU integration are circulating a text requesting the postponement of the negotiations.

It is about four skeptical countries like France, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Spain that are trying to change the opinion of the EU Council.

At the last meeting at the level of ambassadors, these countries have requested the postponement of the intergovernmental conference for Albania. Emphasis is placed on the completion of the Constitutional Court.

Although the ambassadors themselves have not yet taken an official position, it is learned that a conference on Albania has been requested to be held in February or March next year.

Meanwhile for North Macedonia, despite Bulgaria's stance, the German EU presidency is expected to hold the conference later this year.
