Switzerland arrests three Kosovo citizens with links to IS and Al-Qaeda

Authorities in Switzerland say they have arrested four people on suspicion of links to the extremist militant groups Islamic State (IS) and Al-Qaeda.

The federal prosecutor's office said police have raided three homes in the western canton of Friborg on Friday as part of two criminal investigations into the alleged extremist activity.

The suspects are alleged to have violated Swiss law banning involvement with Al Qaeda, IS and its affiliated organizations, the Associated Press reports.

Prosecutors said the four detainees were also suspected of "supporting or participating in a criminal organization".

They identified the four suspects only as a 28-year-old Kosovar woman, a 26-year-old Kosovar man, a 34-year-old with dual citizenship, Swiss and Kosovar, and a 29-year-old Macedonian.

"They have been in contact with each other, raids and house arrests have all been carried out at the same time," prosecutors said.

Further information, including which of the suspects was related to which group, has not been disclosed by the authorities.
