Albanian explorers descend 120 meters into a mysterious cave in Tropoja

Shpella e Qafkave in Tropoja, between the Çerem valley in the northeast and the left branches of the Valbona river in the southeast, a hill called the Qyteti i Rrasave, 2060 meters above sea level, between the peak of the Gjarpër, 2142 m, and the peak of Isuf Dema with 2243 m.

A group of 5 people from Kosovo entered for the first time in a shaft cave, a special vertical cave, simply a pit never seen before not only in the Balkans but also beyond.

On August 8, 2020, the group led by Aziz Kastrati, Blerton Nuhaj, Isa Balaj, and Lorik Bokshi, explored partially by being released over 120 m vertically in the unique cave called Shpella e Qafkave.

How was this cave discovered?

"On July 11, 2020, Lorik and I were on these rare sides on a mountain hike to touch these peaks. Before we started the climb we met a local shepherd (in our interest to learn what that mountain was called), who explained to us about the Qyteti i Rrasave and a special cave not visited by anyone except the local shepherds. Out of curiosity we climbed to this peak about 2060 m, it was no coincidence that it was called the Qyteti i Rrasave (city of Slabs), because at the top was an unprecedented large plateau of slabs in which was this unnoticed cave. After a search and insistence on the delivery limits we accidentally came across the cave, we stayed there for some time, we took pictures, enjoyed the beauty, but we were also saddened by the endless depth of the cave.

The next day I posted the whole climb on my Facebook profile. Aziz Kastrati, a passionate caveman from Prizren who works and lives in Germany, saw the post, congratulated me, and expressed the desire and enthusiasm to visit it, and asked me to accompany Lorik to the place where the cave was located. And so it started, we set the date, Azizi got all the necessary equipment for the release, and came to Kosovo with another friend from the Diaspora, Isa Balaj.".
