Albanian migrants send about $ 1.1 billion in their birthplace every year

These last 30 years more than anything else, Albania has "been kept alive" by the remittances of Albanians in migration. According to the data analyzed in the show In a Few Words, in Euronews Albania, from 1994 to 2004 emigrants brought about 5.8 billion USD in their country.

From 1992 to 2020: the total remittances have been around $ 30,250 billion over 28 years, so migrants have brought in about $ 1.08 billion each year.

In 2007, remittances accounted for 12% of national income and were 3 times higher than net foreign direct investment.

In a study conducted by the Bank of Albania and the World Bank, it is estimated that 23% of households in the years 2014-2018 have benefited from remittances, while the average annual value of these remittances reaches 2 thousand euros per year per household.

"For most households, these incomes are estimated to be the main source for meeting consumption and investment costs," the Bank of Albania report states.

Likewise, they are still the second most important group of tourism in Albania, after Kosovo Albanians. There are hundreds of thousands of emigrants who visit Albania for Summer or Winter vacations, spending tens of millions of euros every year.

Let us not forget that tourism reaches up to 10-12 percent of the country's production. The government pays at least 100 euros a day for each Covid patient in hospitals.

These important economic figures show that Albania can not prosper and develop without the contribution of the diaspora. Enabling the vote against the diaspora is a necessity for a strong nation and Albania.
