From 1992 to 2020: the total remittances have been around $ 30,250 billion over 28 years, so migrants have brought in about $ 1.08 billion each year.
In 2007, remittances accounted for 12% of national income and were 3 times higher than net foreign direct investment.
In a study conducted by the Bank of Albania and the World Bank, it is estimated that 23% of households in the years 2014-2018 have benefited from remittances, while the average annual value of these remittances reaches 2 thousand euros per year per household.
"For most households, these incomes are estimated to be the main source for meeting consumption and investment costs," the Bank of Albania report states.
Likewise, they are still the second most important group of tourism in Albania, after Kosovo Albanians. There are hundreds of thousands of emigrants who visit Albania for Summer or Winter vacations, spending tens of millions of euros every year.
