Increase of new COVID-19 cases in Albania

 In Albania, COVID-19 cases are growing at a significant rate. In the last 24 hours, the authorities reported 786 infected, or 10 percent more than the day before, while the number of tests was almost the same, at the quota of 2592 tampons. Compared to last Thursday, the cases have almost doubled. Even the percentage of positivity (the ratio between the number of tampons and the persons affected) jumped to the probably highest quota recorded so far, 30.3 percent, from 27.6 percent the day before.  

Tirana is the epicenter of the epidemic with 379 cases, followed by Gjirokastra with 71 cases. The small southern town has recently become a hotbed of growing numbers. The other affected were registered in 25 different municipalities from north to south: 35 cases in Shkodra, 31 cases in Fier, 28 cases in Kruja, 25 cases in Kavaja, 24 cases in Elbasan, 23 cases in Vlora, Berat, Saranda, 20 cases in Tepelena, 18 cases in Lushnje, 14 cases in Durrës, 10 cases in Bulqiza, 8 cases in Puka, 7 cases in Kurbin, Lezha, Mat, Pogradec, 6 cases in Përmet, 4 cases in Delvinë, 3 cases in Korça , Devoll, Kukës, Mirditë, and 2 cases in Malësi e Madhe and Gramsh.

Also, the number of hospitalized patients continues to increase progressively. As of Thursday afternoon, according to official data, in 3 COVID hospitals, 424 patients are being treated, 11 in intensive therapy, of which 4 are intubated.
