The Ministry of Health of Kosovo told Radio Free Europe that Kosovo will buy with its own funds the rest of the vaccines, when they are on the market and allowed for human use.
"Kosovo has been in talks for several months with the World Health Organization and international partners. "The World Vaccination Alliance has included Kosovo among the beneficiary countries of 20% of the amount of vaccines for free, or 360,000 doses of vaccines against COVID-19, caused by the new coronavirus", it is said in a statement of the Ministry of Health.
This week, the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer and the German BioNTech have confirmed that their coronavirus vaccine "offers 90% protection".
The two companies plan to apply for emergency approval of their vaccine later this month.
Pfizer said it believes it will provide 50 million doses of the vaccine by the end of this year and another 1.3 billion by the end of 2021.
Dozens of other coronavirus vaccines are under development.
