Turkish colleges in Albania are suing 12 police officers for illegal raids

The largest company of non-public schools in Albania, "Turgut Ozal Education" sh.a has filed criminal charges in the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana with several employees of the State Police on charges of abuse of office during numerous checks on colleges in recent months.

It is about 12 Judicial Police Officers and other members of the police, who according to the lawyer Isuf Shehu have committed illegal actions during the controls carried out during the last months and weeks in the private schools owned by Turgut Ozal Education sh.a., registered with the Amsterdam Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands.

Shehu said that the indicted police officers carried out controls without having a warrant, prosecution decision, or court, aiming more at tarnishing the image and putting pressure than providing evidence to prove possible suspicions of violations by the company.

The violation concerns the non-application of the relevant provisions for obtaining the proves.

"They carried out checks without having a mandate, a prosecutorial decision, without any court decision. These basic actions are dictated by the general prosecution 20 years ago on how to behave in these cases. The controls cannot be done, except by respecting the code," said Shehu.

There are strong suspicions that abrupt controls on the institutions in question are being carried out for other purposes, which go beyond law enforcement. It seems that the pressure is great on the leaders of these institutions, who in recent months have been interrogated very often by the NGOs, revealing under the nose that they have other intentions, such as forcing shareholders to sell institutions to persons according to the orientation of them.
