US elections remind me of Albania: Former Ambassador Aleksander Arvizu

 Former US Ambassador to Albania, Mr. Aleksander Arvizu commented for Euronews Albania on the election situation in the USA, where he said that the result was expected to be clear after a few days.

According to the diplomat, taking into account the votes in favor of Biden, the Democratic candidate has a clear path to victory, although he said it will be a narrow victory.

"Obviously the country is very divided and the result will not be ideal. 

"America will be a very divided country after this election," Arvizu said. 

The journalist Ilva Tare also asked Ambassador Arvizu if he remembered the situation there and the elections in Albania.

"Unfortunately yes. I have thought about the time in Albania and how Albanians have ups and downs during the elections. We have had close elections in the US before and this is not uncommon, as for example the year 2000, but I think because of Trump and some of his supporters, the rhetoric, the attack on the media, this adds to the anxiety and creates more tension. It is unfortunate, but we still have a very professional ballot counting system, so I think in the end this will help the US. But in Albania, unfortunately, the institutions can succumb to a little more pressure. "We do not have perfect institutions in the US, but the tradition is longer here," said Mr. Arvizu.

The massive wave of Trump supporters who participated in the election was also one of the points where he stopped during his interview.

"I see myself and maybe I'm part of the problem. I live in Washington, most of my friends and colleagues are professional, well-educated, well-paid, have a positive outlook on the world, climate change, when I talk to them we ask ourselves how naturally this thought comes to us, but we all have family and friends who think differently. I am from Colorado, I am in contact with some people out there and some think like me, others are 100% Trump supporters. "It's a little difficult for us to have an honest dialogue as Americans and this is a big problem," he said.
