Albania ranks 61st among 138 countries in the Global Knowledge Index.
The report gives the strongest and weakest points of the country as well as specific sector rankings where the part of higher education and technology is weaker.
This in fact is not a surprise as even earlier reports have highlighted a still modest approach of Albania in this regard. In two similar reports published earlier, Albania was ranked 67th and has seen some progress in numbers but this is not understood as an effect of its improvement or deterioration of other countries.
The Global Knowledge Index 2020 writes that our country is a "moderate" performer in terms of knowledge and infrastructure. Anyway, it is the 9th place among 36 others who have high human development.
Strengths according to the report are the defining rules of business, the impact of business rules on Foreign Direct Investment, prints and publications, net inflows from Foreign Direct Investment, and the prevalence of non-tariff barriers.
In terms of points that according to the report need improvement are the independence of the judiciary, better scientific publications, higher net imports of high technology (in relation to the percentage of trade), globally ranked universities as well as enrollment in globally ranked universities (% of high school students).
The same report makes a ranking of countries in terms of education, taking into account all the links and some related sectors.
Thus, in pre-university education, Albania is ranked 58th, while in terms of training and technical education in 5th place. In higher education, Albania drops several places, falling to 77th place. In the economy, our country registers the 77th position, while in research and innovation ranks 63rd.
The panorama for the region shows that the country with the best performance in this Index is Serbia which is ranked 48th. Then comes Croatia in 49th place, Greece in 59th place and then North Macedonia in 77th and Bosnia and Herzegovina. 95.
