Albanian company Kastrati Group buys the Tirana International Airport

The transaction has been formalized in the National Business Center, where Kastrati Group has bought 100% of the shares of Tirana International Airport, which manages the concession of the international airport "Mother Teresa", this is of what almost all Albanian media are reporting in these moments.

Kastrati Group is an Albanian company owned by the Albanian from Kukësi, Shefqet Kastrati.

The shares were sold by Real Fortress Private Limited, owned by Chinese financial services group China Everbright. Under the contract, the total stake was bought for 71m euros to be made in two payments.

The history of selling and buying the shares of the only airport in Albania started in 2004 when the concession contract was initially taken over by three shareholders: Albanian-American Enterprise Fund, DEG-Deutsche investments, and AviAlliance GmbH. In 2016, the latter sold TIA shares to Chinese company China Everbright.

The resale of shares takes place at a time when the only airport in Albania has been stripped of its exclusivity, which prevented the opening of other airports.

Meanwhile, the Albanian Government has announced that work has begun on putting the Kukes airport into operation. The abolition of the franchise extended the airport concession term by an additional two years. If Vlora Airport, whose tender has been postponed several times, will also become operational, Tirana International Airport may receive an additional 2.5 years.
