More than two decades after the end of the Kosovo conflict, the search for victims remains a major obstacle to improving relations between Belgrade and Pristina.
Investigators used satellite imagery to find the mass grave in an open pit mine in Kizevak in southern Serbia.

According to the head of the Serbian Commission for Missing Persons, Veljko Odalovic, there are thought to be around 17 bodies.
Expert Suzana Matejic said further investigation would be hampered due to winter and coronavirus restrictions.

More than 13,000 people are believed to have died during the war in Kosovo. The fighting ended in 1999 after NATO airstrikes against Yugoslavia. Most of the victims were ethnic Albanians and hundreds are still missing.
Kosovo's representative for missing persons, Ibrahim Makolli, said finding those responsible for the deaths should be a priority, adding: "They should receive the punishment they deserve."

The revelation came as a result of efforts by Serbia, Kosovo, the International Committee of the Red Cross and EULEX, the EU justice and police mission in Kosovo.
