The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, has elected Bledi Çuçi as the successor of the resigned Minister of Internal Affairs, Sander Lleshaj.

"Today I send to be decreed by the President Bledi Çuçi as Minister of Interior and Milva Ekonomi as Minister of Agriculture," said the Prime Minister.

In these seven years of rule by the Socialists, Bledi Çuçi will be the fourth minister after Saimir Tahiri, Fatmir Xhafaj, and Sander Llleshaj to head the Interior Ministry.

With these two new proposals, Prime Minister Edi Rama has been careful to avoid a new clash with President Ilir Meta, who delayed the appointment of Sander Lleshaj as a minister and rejected that of Gent Cakaj.

Bledi Çuçi, proposed to lead the Interior Ministry, is currently the Agriculture Minister.

He became part of the governing structures of the SP in 2007 when he was elected a member of the National Assembly and chairman of the Assembly Committee on Local Government Affairs.

Since February 2012, he has also held the position of Undersecretary for Electoral Affairs in the SP. In the Rama1 government from September 2013, for three and a half years Bledi Çuçi served as Minister of State for Local Affairs and National Coordinator against Corruption.

In this task, he led the work for the preparation and implementation of the Territorial Administrative Reform. Mr. Çuçi is the political envoy of the Socialist Party in Gjirokastra.

Milva Ekonomi, currently chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, joined the ruling cabinet of Prime Minister Rama as Minister of Economy in 2016. In the 2017 elections, she was elected MP in Durrës. Ms. Ekonomi has also served as Deputy Minister of Health. From 1994 to 2005 she served as General Director of the Institute of Statistics of Albania.
