Protest against the murder of a 25-year-old man in Tirana

In Tirana, several hundred citizens protested this evening in front of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Interior after the murder of a 25-year-old man by an officer, who didn't obey a police patrol.

Protesters demand the resignation of Interior Minister Sander Lleshaj and justice for the young man killed. "Down with communism!", "Down with the Dictatorship!", "Lleshaj, resign!", "Rama go!", "We want justice for Klodian", were some of the slogans of the protest.

After clashing with a small number of police near the Interior Ministry offices, protesters continued to protest in front of the Prime Minister's office.

There they set fire to a Christmas tree and hit law enforcement officers, who used tear gas to disperse the protesters.

Groups of protesters stood on the promenade "Dëshmorët e Kombit" sometimes gathering at the Prime Minister's office and sometimes at that of the Ministry of Interior.

They then went down to Skanderbeg Square, where they also burned a Christmas tree, and where again the police used tear gas.

The relatives of the murdered young man, Klodian Rasha, claimed that his only violation was that he was outside the apartment at the time of the curfew due to the pandemic.

Police have stopped his colleague who shot with a firearm and took the life of the young man and stated that is continuing investigations into the incident.

A law enforcement spokesman said nine police officers had been taken to hospitals for various injuries, while at least one journalist and one protester were injured during the protest.
