Verona deprives Roberto Saviano of the title "Honorary Citizen"
Roberto Saviano
The Verona City Council revoced the title "Honorary Citizen" for Roberto Saviano in yesterday's session, which was given to the writer in 2008. The proposal, put forward by Lega Nord councilor Alberto Zelger and signed by nine other councilors, including City Council President Ciro Maschio (FdI), was approved by 20 votes in favor, 7 abstentions and one against, local media reports.
Among the reasons for removing the honorary title, proposed a year ago, was Saviano's lack of thanks to the Municipality of Verona and the fact that he never expressed a desire to come and pull it off.

Moreover, Zelger motivated the revocation with praise for Carola Rackete and "repeated expressions of contempt against former Minister Matteo Salvini with slanderous phrases."
