The 20-year-old Albanian man who is suspected of killing and then burning the Greek businessman in Santorini has appeared in court, after a heavy quarrel because the businessman did not give the 200 euros he owed him, as the young man claimed,.
Greek media have published images of the moment when the Albanian was sent from Santorini to Naxos. The 20-year-old with the mask due to anti-covid rules and a bag in his hands is quickly sent from the port to the car and then before the court.
Lefteris Gavrilis, the lawyer of the victim's family, hotelier Nikos Halaris has raised doubts about the manner of the murder and the motive.
He said that it is very difficult for a person in a short time, without a collaborator, to burn the 69-year-old with just a bottle of vodka. Also, he is not convinced relating to the motive of the murder, based on the Greek media.
The moment he left the hotel, in order to hide the traces the Albanian took with him everything he had touched, the cloth, a bucket, and the iron rod that hit the 69-year-old.
The young man closed all the doors of the hotel and threw the keys into the sea.
"Nikos had another building a few meters away from the hotel he was building and the author also worked nearby, they met every day.
"Now what led this man to go and take his life, no one can know and can not be this small amount", referring to 200 euros, he said.
He goes on to say that “When I took over the case, I called the medical examiner and when I asked him if there were any signs of stabbing, or something else, he told me that the victim's body was badly burned, so that blows can not be detected.
The only thing he found and could say was that he had a blow to the skull, i.e. he had an opening in the skull.
The body was found inside the reception, which means that it was dragged for 7-8 meters in order to bring it to this point," said Gavrilis.
