About 50 emigrants from Syria were rescued last night in the sea of Vlora by the rapid intervention forces. The migrants found themselves in a difficult situation, as the speedboat they were traveling broke up and remained for about three hours on the open sea near the estuary of the Vjosa River. It was a phone call in the operating room, which announced that a speedboat was sinking that mobilizing the Albanian Coast Guard. Among the 50 Syrian immigrants, there were women and children, it is reported that their final destination was Italy.
16 people immediately received specialized assistance at the Vlora Regional Hospital, while 9 men and women were sent to the Trauma Hospital, among them three children under the age of 10. The rest of them are sent to the corridors of the Local Police Directorate.
A Coast Guard of Albania vessel and two Guardia di Finanza vessels took part in the rescue operation. On the ground, the action for combing the territory failed, while the police failed to catch Albanians involved in traffic.
Unofficial sources confirm the detention of the two suspects as involved in this trafficking. There is currently no accurate data on the speedboat if it is trafficked or registered with regular ownership in Albania.
