A report published by the Institution for Democracy and Mediation says that 89% of citizens think that there is corruption in the ranks of the police. At the same time, the report raises concerns about the cooperation between police officers and the criminal world, even destroying the evidence.

Corruption in the ranks of the State Police continues to be viewed with concern by citizens. A report published by the Institute for Democracy and Mediation states that 89% of citizens think that there is corruption in the State Police, but only 6% of them have reported it, as Euronews Albania reports.

Among the most problematic sectors in the ranks of uniforms, the blue respondents see the Directorate of Anti-Drugs and Trafficking, the Traffic Police, the Department of Economic and Financial Crime and the Border and Migration Police. The poll vote was accompanied by the argument that the reasons for this high level of corruption are a number of factors, but mainly due to the low salaries that police officers receive today.

Another concern noted in the IMD report is the connection of police officers with exponents of the underworld, even breaking the evidence. 57% of respondents from the public think so, while another 61% agreed with the fact that police officers are involved in illegal activities. According to citizens, the phenomenon of corruption is mostly observed in high-ranking police officers than in low-ranking and middle-ranking officers.

Meanwhile, with concern for the public is seen the abuse of funds or promotion in the State Police and meritocracy, which respondents think that politics influences.

This perception of citizens in the ranks of the police comes shortly after the publication of another survey funded by the Swedish government, which said that the level of trust in the ranks of blue uniforms has increased and that there has also been an increase in professional standard and results in the war against crime.
