Sexual violence against minors in Albania has become an increasing phenomenon, destroying the lives of victims and their families. In the last two years, 31 juveniles have denounced the sexual violence they have experienced. The age of sexually abused Albanian children varies from 4 to 18 years-old. 19 sexual cases of abuse have been reported this year alone, out of 12 that were in 2019. Practically in our country every 3 weeks, a child has been sexually abused.
"I am not convinced to say that we have an increase in cases, but I can say that we have an increasing number of reports. If we look at the population studies, the number of those who report is still very small, compared to the actual number of children and adolescents affected by sexual violence," said the CRCA executive director in an interview to Euronews Albania.
"In recent years in Albania, there has been an increase in the number of sexual crimes where this relationship was committed. So article 101, 108 and 108 A ", - says professor Luku.
Tirana and Durrës hold the first places for sexual violence, but specialists claim that even small urban and traditional centers sometimes have a high number of cases.
According to statistics, 56% of sexual violence occurs in the community, 26% at home, 11% at school.
"In most cases, the aggressor is from the family circle. This makes the situation more difficult. Children feel blackmailed and do not feel safe if anyone trusts them," psychologists told to Unpublished.
