The Central Election Commission (CEC) held today in Tirana a demonstration of the way of biometric identification in the election process. The device makes it possible to identify the voter in a timely manner, thus avoiding double voting. Representatives of all political entities participated in the testing of the device.

The head of the CEC, Ilirian Celibashi, said that the device identifies the citizen within 1 minute, which will avoid double voting, which is one of the main concerns raised in the last elections.

"The first presentation went well. What impresses is the accuracy and short time to identify the voter, compared to the old manual way of identification. It takes an average of one minute", Celibashi wrote on his Facebook profile.

"The device verifies very clearly and precisely if someone tries to vote with a forged ID card. "The purpose of the device is to leave a clear and complete trace of the cases when a voter votes in some polling stations or not", he explained.

"Today's demonstration was preliminary to quench the curiosity of anyone who is interested in this process, but it was also an opportunity to see how this device worked," said Celibashi.

Regarding voting and electronic counting, Celibashi said that most likely it will be the voting center in unit no. 8 in Tirana.
