The Institute of Public Health in Montenegro received confirmation from the German laboratory Charite in Berlin that the British version of COVID-19 had been identified in the samples sent there.
"Through the support of the World Health Organization, 40 samples were sent for analysis to the Berlin laboratory and the data show the presence of the British version of the virus," said in a statement the Montenegrin health authorities.
The data of the Institute for the last 24 hours, show a deterioration of the situation, with an increase of new cases and high numbers of victims. On Tuesday, 476 new cases of coronavirus were reported and 11 victims.
Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic last spring, Montenegro has confirmed over 69,770 cases of the coronavirus. Of these, 910 patients died.
In Montenegro, meanwhile, talks are underway within the Covax initiative, so that citizens have access to immunization vaccines against COVID-19, according to a statement from the Montenegrin Ministry of Health.
Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic said that these days Serbia will donate a significant amount of vaccines to the citizens of Montenegro.
