North Macedonia will sign an agreement with Chinese authorities on Monday (February 8th) to purchase 200,000 vaccines against COVID-19.

On Saturday, the Minister of Health, Venko Filipce, announced the methodology of vaccination of the population, but did not specify when the first doses of the Chinese vaccine can arrive.

"The provided doses will serve for the vaccination of 100 thousand people. Health workers and the elderly over 70 will be vaccinated first. Vaccination places will operate at maximum capacity, namely from 2000 to 2500 vaccinations per day. "This vaccine is safe like all other vaccines," said the Minister of Health at a press conference in Skopje.

According to the plan of the Ministry, in the second phase will be vaccinated persons over 65 years, those aged 18 to 64 years and suffering from other diseases, pharmacists, dentists, employees of the Assembly, the Government, journalists, as well as employees of educational institutions and kindergartens.

"Immunization is the most powerful weapon in the fight against the virus." But other health measures must be respected by citizens, such as wearing a mask, physical distance, which together with vaccination will enable better protection against COVID-19 and overcoming the pandemic," said Filipce.

North Macedonia registered 8 new victims on Saturday, 404 infected and 101 cured.
