17 COVID-19 victims in Albania; fewer tests and new cases

Seventeen patients with COVID-19 died in the last 24 hours in Albania, while 683 people were diagnosed as infected.

The Ministry of Health reported on Monday afternoon that the victims were aged 53-85, from Tirana (7), Shkodra (3), Fieri (2), Vlora (2), Korça, Divjaka, and Tepelena.

This is the first day since February 23 that has been reported less than 19 victims. During this two-week period, the daily average of victims has been over 19 every day.

The total number of people who have lost their lives in Albania has gone to 1,956 - 160 only from March 1. The situation remains worrying due to the fact that during January-February there was a high tendency for infections, which has increased the number of hospitalized.

Currently, 646 patients are being treated in COVID hospitals in Tirana and three regional hospitals, 40 in intensive therapy, of which 15 patients are intubated.

Regarding the number of new cases, the ministry said that in the last 24 hours 683 people were affected out of 2,708 tests - about 1,300 tests less than the January-February average.

This is the day with the fewest cases after January 25, 2021 where 538 cases were reported.

However, the low number of cases, compared to previous days, does not hide the fact that the positivity in tests remains high - 25.2%.

The ministry said that during this period 697 people were cured and 612 anti-Covid vaccinations were carried out bringing the total to 75,887 people who had defeated the virus and 20,275 vaccinations.

Out of a total of 113,580 diagnosed cases, currently 35,737 people (31.4%) are still carrying the virus.
