The resolution on Albania, adopted recently by the European Parliament's Foreign Policy Committee, drafted by Isabel Santos, has undergone several amendments based on suggestions from various parliamentary groups, as Euronews Albania reports.
Thus, members of the ID Group, the identity and democracy group in the European Parliament, which consists of conservative MPs from ten different member states, including the Lega Nord in Italy and the National Front in France, have suggested a whole paragraph on Turkish influence in the Western Balkans and the danger that comes from this.
Under this new paragraph of the resolution, the European Parliament 'recalls that Turkey, by combining a combination between' ideological neo-Ottomanism, Islamism and pragmatism in its foreign policy, is using its soft economic, cultural and religious power to exerted influence on the media, the public sphere and the political situation in the Western Balkans; underlines the risk of increasing Turkish expansion in the Western Balkans, which is serving to further destabilize the region’.
