143kg of cocaine from Ecuador would be sold in Europe, verifications for other persons involved

The load of 143 kilograms of cocaine hidden in the container with bananas that was seized at the weekend in the port of Durres would be processed in Albania and then dumped on the European market with a value of up to 10 million euros.

These are the suspicions of the investigative group that according to sources is conducting verifications for other persons who may be involved in this illegal activity.

From the itinerary described by the container, which starts from Ecuador until the arrival at the port of Durres, investigators have suspicions that powerful criminal groups operating in the country may be hiding behind the cargo.

Meanwhile, the two arrested owners of the Massabi Fruits company based in Tirana, more specifically Erion Peti and Clyde Xibraku, who had made the order with bananas from Ecuador, have categorically denied having anything to do with the amount of 143 kilograms of cocaine. They stated that they had ordered a quantity of fruit and at the moment the container arrived in Durrës, the port authorities asked them to appear for detailed control of a load of bananas because a part of the container was marked by a red marker scanner.

This is the 2nd largest load of cocaine caught in recent years in Albania after the amount of 613 kg in February 2018 in a container with bananas owned by Arbër Çekaj.
