Tuz mayor in Montenegro, Nik Gjeloshaj charged with "calling for resistance"

The Basic Prosecution in Podgorica filed on Monday an indictment against the mayor of Tuz, Nik Gjeloshaj,  in the Basic Court of this city. He is accused of committing the criminal offense of "calling for resistance".

The Prosecution has also filed indictments against the Chief of Municipal Police, Rexhep Çunmulaj, and the municipal police officer with the initials E.M.

The three are accused in connection with the events of February 24 and 25 this year in Tuz, where there was a protest against the closure of the hotels and restaurants.

"Gjeloshaj is accused of calling on citizens to resist and disobey the lawful decision of the state and an official in carrying out the official action, as a result of which the lawful decision of the state body was not implemented, because on 24 In February, he organized a meeting with the owners of hotel facilities in Tuzi and called on them to open their facilities, which the owners did the next day, contrary to the order of the Ministry of Health, which banned the operation of hotel facilities, it is said in the notification of the Basic State Prosecution in Podgorica.

Rexhep Çunmulaj and E.M are accused of helping Mr. Gjeloshaj block the Podgorica-Tuz-Hani i Hotit road.

According to the prosecution, they had parked the official vehicles of the municipal police on the street and thus significantly hindered the implementation of the action plan of the police members of the Podgorica Police Directorate, who were committed to respecting the order of the Ministry of Health for the closure of the hotels in Tuz.

Gastronomy business owners and citizens of Tuz have opposed the closure of the premises, calling it unjustifiable, because of the number of people infected with COVID in the municipality of Tuz was lower than in some other Montenegrin cities, where there were more cases of infection.
