Polytechnic University of Tirana |
QS - World University Rankings ”has evaluated 1185 universities worldwide, based on quality. While the University of Tirana is included in the list of Eastern European and Central Asian Universities, where out of 400 universities, it was ranked 351st.
Lecturer Rezart Prifti, very active in the media as well, told Euronews Albania that the ranking of the University of Tirana in the critical list has been expected due to the long-term lack of visions and sustainable policies related to education.
According to him, the current state of education in Albania and not only the higher education is primarily related to the lack of sustainability as there has been a new strategy every year.
On the other hand, the lack of vision has made that Albanian universities do not have curricula related to the market, which creates a significant lack of youth employment.
According to Mr. Prifti, the education system has ceded and this includes private universities, which also for him, should be considered as assets.
One of the things to do is the grouping of the universities; some universities have to remove the thousands of branches they have, for example, the University of Elbasan does not have to produce lawyers. We produce more than we can chew on, students. It is not a matter of strategy, but vision and sustainability. "If a pact is made, that in 5 years we will not change anything", said Mr. Prifti, as he added that we should listen to the market to orient us towards university curricula.
The professor spoke against what he called the extreme liberalization of universities while emphasizing that should be tightened the criteria for the students.
