The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti has confirmed this Friday afternoon that he will file a lawsuit against Serbia for genocide in the International Court of Justice.

"We, together with the Minister of Justice and her team and my advisers, have started working on the preparation of the indictment for the genocide of Serbia in Kosovo for the period of the last war, and on this occasion, we will certainly announce when 'We are clear about the deadlines for these preparations, which are in fact are preparations, because such a case neither dares nor can and should not be lost in the International Court of Justice (ICJ)", said Kurti.

The head of the Kosovo government expressed his conviction that Serbia has committed war crimes and genocide against the citizens of Kosovo.

"So, the preparations must be very large in many aspects, and among other things they are related to the Institute for Research of Crimes during the War, I say so, because they are not only war crimes, they are also crimes against humanity and the crime of genocide. We are convinced that Serbia has committed genocide in Kosovo, in our country, and this deserves a lawsuit. The Government of Kosovo owes its preparation to our history, to the citizens who have the open wound, and to the faith and to our future, which requires a just state in which it is clear who is the aggressor and who is the victim.", He stressed.

He stressed that before starting meetings with the Serbian side in the framework of dialogue, there should be internal dialogue with opposition parties.

"Topics of discussion can be expressed only when the two sides agree. There are no topics that are just one side. We have other things before we get there. The first is the internal discussion with the opposition and a kind of radiograph of the state of dialogue in relation to Serbia, respectively with the process so far and the agreements reached ", said Kurti during a press conference after the government meeting.

The International Court of Justice, also known as the World Court, is one of the six major organs of the United Nations.

This body resolves disputes between states in accordance with international law and provides advisory opinions on international issues of a legal nature.

The International Court of Justice is the only international court that regulates general disputes between countries. Its decisions and opinions serve as the main source for international law.

In the Albanian-speaking public, it is otherwise known as the Hague Tribunal and is the only UN body located outside the US (New York).

In the event of a genocide lawsuit, this will not be the first time Kosovo and Serbia have faced each other in this court. The UN General Assembly sought an opinion from The Hague Tribunal on Kosovo's declaration of independence on February 17, 2008.

The decision of the court known as Resolution 1244, was voted 10 to 4 and was given on July 22, 2010, where the declaration of independence from Kosovo was considered not to violate any international law as no international law prohibits this..
