Sali Berisha and Antony Blinken |
He said the allegations made by the US Secretary of State were "public slander" and that his lawyer was preparing a lawsuit.
"There is no one in Albania or in the world who can say that I have been implicated in any kind of corrupt affair, therefore I have instructed my lawyer in a neutral, and respected country such as France, to file a direct defamation lawsuit against Antony Blinken. He will be sued by the Paris Correctional Court, in which the lawsuit was filed by my lawyer, Batonnier Jean Yves Leborgne," he said.
Asked by reporters if he would also file a lawsuit against Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs Matthew Palmer, who claimed in an interview with VOA that Mr. Berisha has "abused his office", the former prime minister said he would consider such a possibility, but initially said that the focus is on the lawsuit against Blinken.
"I will review his position, but in one aspect Mr. Palamer, I think, and ultimately he is a senior State Department (SD) official who has defended the SD statement. He did nothing else. "It is the statement that says about corruption…. I will also study his statement, but today I am for the statement made by Antony Blinken", stressed Berisha.
The former historical leader of the Democratic Party stressed that the decision of SD has violated his dignity, but said that he will continue his efforts to clarify everything related to the accusations, which he called "public slander".
"There is nothing more important to me than relations with the United States, but above all, it is human dignity, dignity is the essence of a free man, I have tried to save this whole life, I have been violated as never before, but I will clarify this till the end. I will put my dignity on place," he said.
