Fuel, oil, and gasoline prices increased by 5 leks in Albania

At retail gas stations, the price of oil and gasoline has risen this weekend.

If at the beginning of the week a liter of oil was bought at 157 leks per liter, today the price has exceeded to 162 leks, with an average increase of 5 leks per liter.

The reason for the next change is the increase in the price of fuels on international stock exchanges, due to the increase in demand with the gradual opening of economies that for a year have had restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even gas has seen a rise in price by 20-25% at the end of February, being traded at a price of 60 leks per liter from 45 leks previously.

In the Albanian market, the high and unstable price of fuels is a consequence of direct taxes, which make it impossible to compete with the region.

According to the Global Petrol Prices index, after the quarantine, the average price of fuel in Albania fell by 35%, coming down from the top ten countries with the most expensive fuel in Europe. But after the recent fluctuations in the stock market, it seems that these prices are heading for growth.

Level of taxation in the hydrocarbon market:

Circulation Tax - 27 Leks / Liter
Carbon Tax - 3 Leks / Liter
Marking Tax - 1 Leks / Liter.
