The Office of the Socialist Party and the President Ilir Meta |
A message was sent to the phone of the current deputies sent by the head of the socialist parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, stating that "Based on some serious violations of the Constitution according to Article 90, by President Ilir Meta before and during the election campaign, in consultation with the Presidency of the Parliamentary Group we have decided to initiate the Procedure for the Dismissal of the President of the Republic. For this purpose, please provide your presence at the Office of the Parliamentary Group to sign the proposal for the dismissal of the President".
But what does Article 90 of the Constitution provide?
"The President of the Republic can be dismissed for a serious violation of the Constitution and for committing a serious crime. The proposal for the dismissal of the President in these cases can be made by not less than one-quarter of the members of the Assembly and must be supported by not less than two-thirds of all its members. The decision of the Assembly is sent to the Constitutional Court, which, when it proves the guilt of the President of the Republic, declares his dismissal", it is stated in this article.
The head of state himself described the initiative as an attempt to divert attention from the problems observed during the election process.
"Efforts to throw slingshots, to deal with slingshots and meanwhile continue stories with an electoral crime are desperate. We have the last press conference on July 24, 2022, here", reacted Ilir Meta.
Experts say this issue requires interpretation regarding the deadlines.
Parliament will convene on Tuesday next week, but the agenda signed by Gramoz Ruçi does not include the issue of dismissal of the President.
