The University Clinical Hospital Service of Kosovo (UCHSK) has requested the Ministry of Health to take measures to add 600 new nurses to the health system.
The director of UCHSK, Valbon Krasniqi says that in addition to many other challenges for pandemic management, the limited number of nursing staff has been challenging for the sector.
He says that the request for the addition of 600 nurses in Clinics and Hospitals of Kosovo aims to increase the quality of medical services.
"One of the main challenges of managing this pandemic, I am talking about patients in the clinical aspect, those who needed to receive services in hospitals were the limited number of health staff, especially nurses. However, if we talk about standards like Kosovo, we are far from the standards to meet the number of nurses per number of beds per patient. We have made a minimal assessment with minimum requirements that bring around 500-600 nurses that we would need at the level of our hospitals and UCHSK Clinics to have a better service and a very large number of nurses in relation to the number of patients", he said.
The President of the Union of Nurses of Kosovo, Fitim Havolli welcomed the initiative of the leaders of UCCK.
He says for KosovaPress, that besides the lack of nurses, their departure to practice this profession abroad is also a concern.
Based on their analysis, experts say that there is a need to increase the number of 5,000 nurses in the entire health system of Kosovo.
