The number of road accidents in Albania is worrying, while during the first 5 months of this year, 547 accidents were registered, resulting in 90 deaths.
January marked the highest number wherein 125 accidents occurred across the country, 22 people lost their lives and 165 others were injured, as Euronews Albania reports.
In 80% of cases, the accidents occurred as a result of the driver's behavior and the highest number of accidents in this period was committed by the age group 25–34 years, accounting for 28% of the total number of accidents.
The number of road accidents in February is 79, while that of persons involved is 103 and for 18 of them, the consequences have been fatal.
The number of accidents in March is 119, where 150 people were involved in road accidents and 18 of them lost their lives.
April marked 104 road accidents, 145 people were killed or injured and 12 lost their lives.
May would mark another record, 120 road accidents across the country, 151 injured, among them 20 victims.
Based on INSTAT data, most of the accidents occurred as a result of the driver's behavior. During this period, the number of accidents because of pedestrian behavior has increased to 42.3%, compared to a year ago.
The five-month comparison with a year ago is presented with an increase of 40.3%, where 547 road accidents are counted from 390 accidents that occurred in the first five months of 2020.
