Aferdita Suka is running for the Berlin House of Representatives in the 2021 elections in Germany. Aferdita has moved to Berlin since she was 12 years old. She has been active in German politics for many years and has chaired the Tempelhof-Schoneberg health commission for five years.
The 40-year-old has been living in Berlin since 1992 after leaving Kosovo and studied social sciences at Humboldt University in Berlin, where she worked as a consultant in the Senate Administration in Berlin. Since 2011, the mother of one daughter, Aferdita has been a volunteer as a councilor in the Tempelhof district council assembly. In 2015 she was honored with the "Helene Weber" award for her socio-political and civic engagement.
"One of my heartfelt issues is that people in their neighborhood can live healthy and self-determined as long as possible. This not only requires significantly more affordable and age-appropriate apartments but also a suitable living environment, without barriers and local supply. As a health politician, it is my goal for everyone to grow, live and grow old in a healthy and protected environment. This includes sustainable urban development as well as a healthy, climate-friendly transport policy. The policy can also have a strong impact on how healthy a child grows through better access to care and prevention. "That is why I am engaged, for example, in strengthening the public health service, which aims to significantly improve the health of the population", said Aferdita herself in an interview given in April for her candidacy.
