Road accidents increase, during May 20 people lost their lives

 The first five months of this year have marked an increase in the number of fatal accidents. According to INSTAT data, 20 people lost their lives during May, while 131 others were injured.

During May, 120 accidents were registered on the country's roads, 60% more compared to a year ago. This drastic increase is related to the fact that last year, the circulation was reduced due to restrictive measures brought about by the pandemic.

The data of the Institute of Statistics show that even in the 5-month comparison, there has been an increase of 40%, with 547 road accidents in the first half of this year. In May 2021, the number of injured is 151 people from 86 a year ago, increasing by 75.6%.

Statistics show, 20 people lost their lives in accidents this May, 7 of them on the roads that include the region of Lezha. In the first 5 months of 2021, the number of deaths from road accidents is 90 people out of 58 people killed in the same period a year ago.

In 84.2% of cases the road accidents occurred as a result of the behavior of the driver. The highest number of accidents in this period was committed by the age group 25–34 years, accounting for 24.2% of the total number of accidents.

Meanwhile, in 18.5% of cases, they occurred as a result of pedestrian behavior and during this period, the number of accidents according to pedestrian behavior has increased by 42%, compared to a year ago.
