Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlic Radman encouraged today the five European Union member states to recognize Kosovo's independence.

He said such an act would contribute to the stabilization of the Western Balkans Peninsula region.

"Croatia encourages the other five EU members to recognize Kosovo, as this would contribute to the stabilization of the region and Kosovo itself," Radman Grlic told reporters at the GLOBSEC international conference in Bratislava, Kosova Press reports.

According to him, respect for the territorial integrity of states is essential for the stability of the region.

He says that this can be done without having to go to the idea of changing borders, a thesis that has circulated in the media.

"The territorial integrity of the Balkan states must be preserved and respected, without recreating the borders, as we have heard in recent months circulating some famous letters, which were directed in that direction," Radman said.

Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Spain and Slovakia are the five EU countries that still do not recognize Kosovo as an independent state.
