The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime sentenced the former mayor of Gjirokastra, Zamira Rami, to one year in prison, finding her guilty "of abuse of office".

The court suspended the execution of the imprisonment by converting it to an obligation to perform work in the public interest. Ms. Rami was accused by the Special Prosecution of "abuse of duty" in connection with the practices followed for the demolition of two private buildings within two public investments in the city of Gjirokastra.

The Prosecution had claimed that the former mayor of Gjirokastra during the exercise of her functions has committed actions contrary to the legal acts in force, destroying two legal properties of two citizens and causing them damages worth about 60 thousand dollars.

Zamira Rami was elected mayor of Gjirokastra for a 4-year term, in June 2015, as a representative of the SMI with the support of the then coalition with the Socialists.
