'Week of Albanology' is being held in Pristina; 'Albanian language through the centuries'

"Albanology Week" is being held in Prishtina, organized by the Albanological Institute of Prishtina. The President of the Academy of Sciences of Albania, Skënder Gjinushi has participated in the opening of this scientific week. In his speech, Gjinushi said that globalization is a dominant trend in the course of today's world civilization and Albanians have proven that they are prepared to live and survive in their historical identity even in conditions of this trend.

“The Albanian language, the Albanian and the pre-Albanian civilization, have faced the challenges of survival over the centuries: even in the conditions of the eclipse of the ancient Hellenic and Roman enlightenment; confront the power of the imperial languages in the West and the East. Exactly this experience is the proof of the vitality of the Albanian heritage and the foundation of our optimism for the future. The intercommunication between languages and cultures in today's conditions, when the world has become a "little village", has never meant to flatten ethnic, linguistic, religious and cultural identities.

These are the reasons and it is this context why such activities and studies are very valuable and why we are paying primary attention to three major works in albanology: "History of Albanians", "The Great Dictionary of Albanian" and "Albanian Encyclopedia". Also, the President of ASA, praised the honor given to one of the members of the Assembly of the Academy of Sciences of Albania, our academician Jani Thomai, awarding him the title "Honorary Member" of the Albanological Institute.
